# API Overview

> Authenticate with Airscale and make your first API request.

Airscale is the documentation hub for Airscale. Use the Airscale API to search for people and companies and enrich contact data from your application.

## Make your first request

**1. Create an API key**

In Airscale, open **Settings → API key** and create a key for your server-side application.

**2. Authenticate**

Store the key in an environment variable and send it as a Bearer token on every request.

```

**3. Request your credit balance**

Call `POST https://api.airscale.io/v1/credits` with no body.

  --header "Authorization: Bearer $AIRSCALE_API_KEY"
```

A successful request returns the remaining workspace balance as a number:
